Udaan – A Second Chance at Education

Providing a second chance to school dropouts by helping them complete their 10th and 12th education build a secure, independent future.

Description

Support Grassroots Foundation in helping dropout students complete their 10th and 12th education. This initiative provides financial support, structured coaching, and mentorship to students from low-income and vulnerable backgrounds, enabling them to return to the education system and build a stable future.

Primary Goals

Udaan aims to re-engage students who were forced to drop out of school due to financial constraints, family responsibilities, migration, and social challenges. The program focuses on helping them successfully complete their 10th and 12th board examinations through guided academic support and continuous mentoring.

Beyond academics, the initiative works to rebuild students’ confidence, motivation, and belief in their ability to create a better life.

Key Activities

  1. Identification and enrollment of 10th & 12th dropout students
  2. Structured coaching across Science, Commerce, and Arts streams
  3. Subject-wise academic support and regular assessments
  4. Mentoring and academic counselling
  5. Coverage of board exam fees and related expenses

Cost per student:

  • INR 20,000 – Standard 10th
  • INR 30,000 – Standard 12th (Commerce/Arts)
  • INR 40,000 – Standard 12th (Science)

Intended Impact

  1. Reduce school dropout rates in vulnerable communities
  2. Improve completion of secondary and higher secondary education
  3. Increase access to higher education and skill development
  4. Enhance employability and long-term income opportunities
  5. The program not only supports education but also empowers youth to become confident, self-reliant individuals who can support their families and break the cycle of poverty.

Problem Statement

A large number of students from low-income and marginalized communities are unable to complete their 10th and 12th education due to financial hardship and lack of access to academic support. Once they drop out, the absence of structured re-entry programs makes it difficult to return to school.

Without basic educational qualifications, these students often face limited career opportunities and are pushed into low-paying, informal work, continuing the cycle of poverty.

Project Goal

This project will accomplish these additional goals

  1. Support dropout students in completing their secondary and higher secondary education
  2. Remove financial barriers to board exam participation
  3. Provide academic guidance, mentoring, and structured learning support
  4. Enable pathways to higher education, vocational training, and sustainable employment

Give every student a second chance at education—because one opportunity can change the course of a life.
