Support Subhiksha Voluntary Organization (SVO) in implementing a comprehensive Special Education, Therapeutic Rehabilitation, and Life Skills Development Programme for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), including intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and other developmental disabilities.

The programme will provide individualized special education, functional academics, communication development, personal care, self-help training, safety awareness, social and behavioural development, and structured developmental activities.

Therapeutic rehabilitation will include physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, counselling, and other need-based interventions. For adolescents and adults, the programme will additionally focus on functional life skills, pre-vocational and vocational skill development, workplace behaviour, self-advocacy, communication, social skills, and community participation.

A person-centred and multidisciplinary approach will be followed, with individual needs assessed, appropriate goals established, and progress regularly monitored and documented. Families and caregivers will also be engaged to reinforce functional skills and ensure continuity of support beyond the programme setting.

By combining education, therapeutic rehabilitation, and life-skills development, the programme will provide sustained support to persons with IDD, helping them build practical abilities and participate more meaningfully in family and community life.

Problem Statement

Children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities often face significant barriers to accessing quality special education, therapeutic rehabilitation, functional life-skills training, and sustained developmental support.

Limited availability of specialized services, affordability constraints, inadequate support systems, and social exclusion can restrict opportunities to develop essential communication, self-care, social, and functional skills.

For economically disadvantaged families, these challenges can be particularly significant. Children may not receive timely individualized education and therapy, while adolescents and adults may have limited opportunities to develop functional, vocational, and self-advocacy skills.

There is a need for accessible, integrated, and individualized education, therapy, rehabilitation, and life-skills support that enables persons with IDD to strengthen their abilities, achieve greater independence, participate meaningfully in society, and live with dignity.

This project will accomplish these additional goals

This project will accomplish these additional goals:
